We all need an off ramp now and then. A way to decompress. Life has a habit of throwing spanners in the works and, when it does, it helps to know where to turn. I often write about the importance of asking for help and, this week, I took my own advice. Welcome back to Diary of a Writer.
How many of you work somewhere that proudly advertises its mental health support? And how many of you have found, when you really need it, that it’s easier to step outside those lines and look elsewhere?
On Monday, I reached out to a health line I can access through work. That single phone call has now led to an eight-week programme with a counsellor.
As someone who lives with anxiety, I recognised the signs early and I also recognised that I needed external support.
It’s worth remembering: it’s okay to ask for help. It’s a gift to have an understanding partner and it’s just as important to know when to take those first small steps to protect your mind.
What stops you from asking for help when you need it most?
As a survivor of 2 depressive episodes, I commend your courage 👏
